Projects → Ecofutures Festival
Outside of my day to day work, I co-founded the art collective LOUD SPRING. In 2024, we presented our first Ecofutures Festival sponsored by the city of Oakland. It was designed to elevate social and environmental consciousness in a city and neighborhood that’s the most polluted in Northern California, and one of the most seggregated in the US (based on the impact of historical and racist federal housing policies like redlining).
APPROACH
We created an event around the art of gathering community, featuring art making, screenprinting, fireside conversations with local change makers and activists, artisan market, food & bev, and music by Oakland-based musicians. Hosted by the West Oakland eco-industrial complex, O2 Artisans Aggregate, we curated programming in collaboration with KQED Forum host, Alexis Madrigal and his personal project, Oakland Garden Club, and music curator Will Bundy of Eternal Now.
RESULTS
- We engaged 900 attendees over the course of 3 days and were asked by the city to host a fourth activation (and were given additional budget) based on the success of the first ones.
